Fanpop Users Question

Is it spam to submit the same contribution to two different spots?

For example, if you post icons from Spiderman in the Spiderman spot and then post the same ones in the Movies spot. It's related to both topics so is it wrong? I just noticed a user doing this, I wasn't sure.

It doesn't seem like spam to me. I mean, what if you're a member of the movies spot but not the Spider-Man spot? If the user had only posted it under the Spider-Man spot I might not have ever seen it.

There's a lot of incidents where you can post things more than once. For example, uploading icons from a TV show and also to a particular character from that show. For example, sometimes I'll upload icons to The Office spot and then select icons of Pam Beesly and add them to the Pam Beesly spot.

OK so basically, in my opinion it's not spam, but I'm sure other users will think differently. It's all a matter of opinion, I think.

I count spam as like too much being added if that makes sense, like when someone adds like 20 videos in say 5 minutes and dont title them or keyword them properly i cou nt that as spam, you cant really tell too much with pictures i reckon but videos definatly! Also if its day using the movie spot if you added say the 20 spiderman videos liek fanvids from youtube say every day id coun t it as spam becasue not everyone want to watch spiderman fanvids its looks like a desperate attempt for a medal! does that make sense or did i just appear to be a complete biatch lol!

No, I agree, it's like flooded updates. Like you said, when you add like 10+ fanvids at a time, it's obvious that you're just going for the medal. I don't mind a few fanvids here and there, but too many get annoying. That is why I unsubscribed from the TV couples spot. I was getting too many updates about fanvids of couples I did not care about.

It depends on the spot, though. Some spots have no videos in them for some reason, so a user might feel it's helpful to go and find some to add. I think it's more a problem of Fanpop's update system not "grouping" video updates the way it groups image updates.

yeah you right on it depending on the spot but with spots like movies, television its so broad that people just add literally everything in a matter of mins!

I try to post things in the spot where it fits best. of course a "one tree hill" fanvideo has to do with TV..so do the 8 o'clock news, homeshopping, weather report etc etc
i DO feel its spamming- just like i hate "shipping" videos on the main spot of a show. i dont care..i dont ship.if i wanted to see shipping vids id be a part of the couple spot! especially annyoing on shows where there are two couples and the users want to ootdo eachother with content.

If you added a bunch of stuff to one spot- a number of spiderman icons as you say in your example post a LINK to them in the movies spot. like with birthday picks: you make one on the proper spot and then LINK the original content in "fanpop users" so the comments and information is in one place.
it was different in the beginning when there was little content on the site and you were trying to "build" spots. these days upoading the same images to two spots hell yes feels verrry spammy to me.

speaking of: this would be a very good topic for the fanpop etiquette spot thats sadly not getting enough love from people

I have to agree if they are shipping vids post them in the respective spots and keep them off the main spot there is a reason you people made the couples spots and if there isn't one for that couple then make one, but the movie example is fine in my opinon.

what´s "shipping"?

I agree with the shipping - there are some things that belong in one spot and not necessarily in the more general spot. However, with characters, I think it's perfectly appropriate to put an image up in the spot for the character (if there is one) AND in the spot for the show itself.
